Fertility Coaching for LGBTQ+ Folx In Denver: Personalized Support for Your Fertility Journey
Having an LGBTQ+ Fertility Coach will help you navigate all of your options for pursuing pregnancy, create a custom plan to prepare your body for getting pregnant, and even help you better understand what it all means for your specific body. If you or someone you love is planning to be pregnant within the next year, it is a great time to consult with a Fertility Coach!
What is a Fertility Coach?
A Fertility Coach or Fertility Doula is *usually* a certified specialist that has gone through a training program to help guide people through enhancing their own fertility to increase the chances of getting pregnant and staying pregnant. I say *usually* because there is no actual requirement to have any specific training to call yourself a “fertility coach” or any type of “coach” across the board. Many coaches in many wellness spaces are self-taught or have learned from experience over the course of their lifetime. Choosing the Fertility Coach that is right for you and your needs shouldn’t just rely on certification - there are many highly qualified fertility coaches and fertility doulas who have no formal certifications.
Fertility Coaches can help with a variety of hormone related health and wellness topics including making your cycle/period more healthy, management of PCOS, preparing your body to freeze gametes, and even management of GAHT (Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy) related symptoms like body pain and mood changes. What any Fertility Coach can help with largely depends on their personal specialty.
Meet Dr. Savannah
My personal specialty is LGBTQ+ Fertility Support through all stages of family expansion. As a person who grew up in a queer family and is now building my own queer family - helping queer and trans families grow is my personal passion!
I am a Certified Fertility Doula through the NBDA, which offered the most inclusive training available at the time. Though I am certified, much of my training and education for working specifically with the LGBTQ+ community has been self-guided through continuing educational work and client experience.
Fertility Coaching for LGBTQ+ Family Building
Having a Fertility Coach can improve your chances of pregnancy no matter which route you choose. There are multiple stages of this process that could be great cause for adding a coach to your healthcare team:
In The Beginning
For LGBTQ+ singles and couples, there can be an overload of acronyms and processes to dive into and that can feel very overwhelming in the beginning. ICI, IUI, IVF, Known Donor, Unknown Donor, Fresh Sperm, Frozen Sperm, Washed Sperm…The List is truly miles long!
Having a Fertility Coach during the early stages of planning how your pregnancy will happen can help make sense of all of those choices and ease the anxiety associated with medical jargon. We will work through all of the options that are available to you based on your specific needs and wants together so that you feel empowered through the decision making process!
To Freeze or Not to Freeze?
If you are considering freezing and storing gametes for a later date, having an LGBTQ+ Fertility Coach can help you get through the process quickly. We can help you make lifestyle and nutritional changes, choose herbs and supplements, and build a custom fertility plan to ensure that you will have viable collections to freeze as soon as possible. Whether you are currently using GAHT or not, getting viable collections for the freezing process can take 3-12 months. *3-6 months to restore sperm count, 3-12 months to restore health ovulation
Making A Baby
If you have already decided how you are going to make the baby, having a Fertility Coach can help you navigate getting your body ready! We would work together on a monthly basis to make a custom fertility plan that will help your body prepare for getting pregnant. This includes lifestyle and nutritional work that is appropriate for you, herbs and supplements that will work best for your body based on hormone testing, and even learning how to best track your ovulation on your own.
This part of LGBTQ+ Fertility Coaching can be particularly important for trans singles and couples who are planning to use their sperm, egg and/or uterus because it comes with a heavy choice of ceasing GAHT. Making the choice to pause GAHT is not a small decision seeing that, depending on which gametes you are producing, you could be looking at anywhere from 6 months to 3 years off of GAHT. *Note that the longer range relates to the person carrying the pregnancy and/or possibly lactating after birth. The time frame largely depends on the length of time GAHT has been used, which gametes you produce, and how quickly your production of the gametes can return to a level that would produce a viable pregnancy or zygote for IVF.
Working with a coach to go through all of the custom steps mentioned above can shorten the length of time you will have to pause GAHT by enhancing your fertility and getting sperm count and/or ovulation to a level functional for fertilization at a quicker pace.
